FALL RIVER — The LAGOA Gallery is turning to the blues to raise some green for its 5th Annual Kale Feast.
According to LAGOA’s curator, Dr. Stephen L. Cabral, the gallery will launch its fundraising efforts on Feb. 22 with a blues jam by the Dennis McCarthy Band at the Adagio Piano Lounge.
The event, to be held from 7 to 10 p.m., will be hosted by Simon and Jennifer Sousa, owners of the restaurant located at 227 South Main St., Fall River.
Simon Sousa said he looks forward to participating in the Kale Feast, which will be held next October.
“This event will jump start the festival’s marketing campaign with a local fund raising effort,” he said. “Join us at the Piano Lounge where you can drink, dine and dance your blues away.”
The Dennis McCarthy Band hails from Providence, R.I. Most of the band members can trace their musical roots to the legendary Met Café before it moved to Pawtucket. Dennis and his former band, The Groove Masters, were a Wednesday night staple at the Met during the late 70’s and early 80’s. His current band performs at Nick-A-Nee’s in the old jewelry district of Providence.
“We look forward to our road trip across the Braga Bridge to Fall River,” McCarthy said. “We have a funky, blues repertoire that will get people off their ashes… onto the dance floor.”
The gallery will also set up a Kale Fest exhibit at the event. According to Dr. Cabral, the display will not only feature Kale Fest’s trade mark soup bowls, but also a new line of Manny Middlefinger T-shirts.
He said Larry Poulin, owner and manager of Penny Pockets, Ltd., a digital garment and embroidery shop on Bedford Street, will unveil the new product line at the blues jam.
A $10 cover charge will be collected at the door during the night of the show. Advance tickets can be obtained at LAGOA Gallery, located at 291 High St., Fall River, or by calling Dr. Cabral at 509-673-6624.
