Clube Madeirense S.S. Sacramento installs new officers

NEW BEDFORD — More than 250 members and friends of New Bedford’s Club Madeirense S.S. Sacremento gathered recently at New Bedford Sports Club for the annual Installation of Officers banquet.
In addition to a performance of the club’s award winning folkloric dancers, the evening featured a swearing in ceremony of all officers and members of the Board Directors officiated by newly elected Mayor Jon Mitchell.
The club also bestowed special honors to three members.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to José Ferro, a longtime active member of the club who has served on multiple Feast Committees, and celebrated his 91st birthday on the day of the event.
In an unusual move, a second Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed on James Souza, one of the club’s dues collectors and the chairman of the By-Laws Committee. Souza has also served on many committees and is instrumental in working with every Feast Committee.
Following tradition, a single award was given to the club’s “Man-of-the-Year.” It was awarded to Paul Leconte for his continuing contribution to many areas of the club.
