Gas prices up a tick in Massachusetts: $3.51 a gallon

Average retail gasoline prices in Massachusetts have risen 1.4 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.51/g yesterday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 2,830 gas outlets in Massachusetts.

This compares with the national average that has increased 8.9 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.67/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

It’s a new experience for Dan Langfield, and it’s a frustrating one.

The Somerset High graduate — a 2012 third-round draft pick of the Cincinnati Reds — has been sidelined with a shoulder injury. He remains at the Reds’ spring training camp outside Phoenix, Ariz., where his baseball life is downright dull. He said the injury has been diagnosed as an “internal impingement” in the pitcher’s right throwing shoulder.

Motorcyclists gather to honor Medal of Honor recipient Jared Monti

Medal of Honor recipient Jared Monti’s motorcycle was driven in his memory on Sunday.

After Monti, of Raynham, was killed in action at age 30 while trying to save a fellow soldier in Afghanistan in 2006, his black Harley-Davidson was given to his uncle Russell Corsini and family. Ever since then, Corsini rode the bike in honor of his nephew, and he has taken it out each year on a memorial motorcycle run held in Monti’s name.

St. Anthony’s in Taunton holds procession through the city

Members of St. Anthony’s Church in Taunton held a traditional Portuguese procession on Sunday.

Dozens of parish members quietly walked around the neighborhood of the School Street church on Sunday, with the Taunton City Band keeping the beat with a slow, brass-laden march song. The procession was part of a Holy Ghost Feast held at the church.
